Wesley Harris
Wesley, a retired teacher, has been involved in local and regional economic development for many years. He joined the South Coast Community Development Corporation (SCCDC) in the early 90s after his involvement in writing a course guide for a high school entrepreneurial course and with a long resume in volunteer work at the community level – municipal, library, church, etc. Wesley joined Zonal Board 13 – the Coast of Bays Corporation – six years ago as a representative to that board from the SCCDC. For the past two years he has been chair of the zonal board. Since that time he has spoken at two pan-provincial meetings about the close relationship between these two boards, mentioning especially the joint AGMs and the quarterly meetings between the chairs and the executive directors of both corporations. His continuing interest in local regional economic development is driven by his desire to serve his community, to help make long term economic opportunities happen in the remote rural region. And, he believes, the motivation is stronger now more than ever because of the recent developments in aquaculture and mining.
