Newfoundland and Labrador Angel Network (NLAN) :NLAN is an initiative of the St. John’s Board of Trade, through BOT Capital Project Inc., launched in 2006 with the support of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). NLAN is one key element of the St. John’s Board of Trade’s mandate to create and foster a positive business climate in Newfoundland and Labrador by attempting to address the issue of access of capital for businesses at start-up and in interim stages of growth.

Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) initiative: The Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) initiative is community-based economic development tool that promotes job growth by helping community leaders identify and address barriers to survival and growth facing local businesses. The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA), a unique non-profit organization that combines arts and social services to address the needs of immigrants and to promote the embracing of cultural diversity in our community. An excellent resource that is available on line is a Tool Box of Ideas for smaller centres interested in attracting and retaining immigrants. I was on the national working group that created it.
